"Entourage" star hopes new ipad app. will help production company and reach larger amount of fans

by Nicole Tawney

Adrian Grenier, former star of the hit show HBO "Entourage" hopes that his new free ipad application will help him connect better with fans in a way that has never been done before and show investors that he has a strong audience following. In creating this app., Grenier hopes to show investors that they should invest in his production company, Reckless Production, by showing first hand how large his audience following is through use of the app. Grenier demonstrated his app. at the 2012 New York Media Summit this past week, claiming, "Investors want to see that given that the marquee value of celebrities is speculative. So, through this app, we're not looking to get rich, but add a tool to a company that will hopefully be rich one day". A couple of features that the new app. will allow fans are immediate upload of pictures with themselves and Grenier, a digital autographed picture and digital video content. The goal of the app. is to ultimately reach over a million downloads within the next year and the eventually be able to feature film and movie merchandise to fans. Technology is now playing a greater role among film stars and fans, in a manner that has never really been used as a tool before. This is just an example of how Hollywood is starting to take notice and use emerging media as a tool to gain movie sales.

The Grid

By: Brie Cichy

The Grid is a new online tool for the Hollywood community. It contains details on every single project happening in the film/entertainment world and where that project is in it’s development process. Along with current information, The Grid also provides 25 years of historical film data, including who was involved, release dates, even box office earnings. The website was started by a group of Motion Picture Literary managers who were trying to create an easier way that you could track and search spec scripts and writing assignments. Itsonthegrid gives you the “who,” “what,” and “where” of every project going on in the industry, no matter what stage of production it happens to be in. The site has become the ultimate resource for: feature film projects in active development and in production in Hollywood, every spec script that’s gone out wide since 2009, released movies, every company involved with every project, as well as every person associated with each project. The grid is an interactive site for professionals either already within the industry or looking to break in. Users can store personal notes about different projects and even check back daily for updates on projects they are following.

Platforms key to tapping new revenue streams

Chanel Proell

Mitch Singer, the chief digital officer of Sony Pictures, recently spoke on the film industry's financial problems. He said one of the biggest problems is receiving income from movies that have already been produced. He stated with large declines in DVD sales it forcing film studios to produce fewer films every year. Singer proposes the idea of a media platform called UltraViolet to help solve these problems. Ultra Violet is a "a cloud-based, buy-once-and-play-anywhere plan that enables consumers to stream purchsed titles to any device with a compatible app..." This new application could literally be a new revolutionary addition to the film and TV industry and Singer proposed it could even help stopping online piracy of content.
